Students from public elementary schools in Villanueva and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental vie for the championship round during the 1st Inter-School Science Competition at the Villanueva Gymnasium held recently. Organized by STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) in cooperation with the Department of Education, LGU-Villanueva, and STI College, the contest caps the commemoration of September 2006 as Science Month. More than P150,000 worth of prizes in the form of science equipment, teachers training and scholarship grants were given away.  The activity has also inspired teachers and students to exert more efforts in improving quality of public school performance in the field of science. The contest is one of the educational development interventions initiated by SPI designed to benefit its host communities in Villanueva where the 210MW (net) Mindanao Coal-Fired Power Plant Project is currently being constructed.
