News Steag bags championship in firefighting and rescue olympics Cagayan de Oro City, 31 March 2009 Cagayan de Oro City –STEAG State Power Inc Emergency Response Team (Steag-ERT) emerged as overall champion in the recently concluded 2009 Commercial and Industrial Fire Olympics held at the LimKet Kai grounds this city. Steag ERT garnered the highest aggregate points in three major categories besting seven other industrial teams from all over Northern Mindanao. The team ranked first in the modified firefighters combat and rescue challenge category while placing 1st and 2nd runner up in the Fire Extinguishment and Bucket relay, respectively. Other companies that joined the competition include Nestle, Del Monte Phils, MORESCO I, Pueblo de Oro, Bukidnon Sugar Milling Co., Mindanao Energy System and OB-3 Realty Inc. Jointly organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 10 (BFP 10) and the Safety Organization of the Philippines – Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro City and Bukidnon Chapter (SOPI), the activity capped this year’s commemoration of Fire Prevention Month with the theme: “Fire Safety: A challenge, concern and priority for everybody”. BFP 10 Regional Director Eleuterio Iturriaga lauded SOPI and the participating companies for their support as he urged the public to be more vigilant in fire prevention and safety. For his part, Steag State Power Inc. President Andreas Rubin congratulated the Steag ERT for bringing honor to the company as he encouraged all employees to continue pursuing excellence in every aspect of their work and professions. The Steag ERT members include Alex Biemen, Richard Yacapin, Roger Sajulga, Gibson Cabunoc, Antonio de Jesus III, Jefferson Vargas, Ronald Paderanga, Norvic Edurot, Dewie Marilla and Team Captain Demetrio Orozco.
